Welcome message from Peter Carter
Dear Visitor,
Welcome to the British Embassy website. I hope that this site will make it easy for you to search for news, visa and consular information, the latest on Estonian-British relations, and generally satisfy your interest in the United Kingdom.
The Embassy has had a busy Spring and Summer. We welcomed two delegations of British MPs, from the Defence and Welsh Affairs Select Committees, highlighting the close links between the UK's and Estonia's Parliamentarians. The Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious spent five days in Tallinn in June; and the Royal Air Force provided two Tornado aircraft for the fly-over at the Victory Day parade in Jõgeva. Both visits demonstrated how close UK-Estonian defence relations are. I hosted the Queen's Birthday Party at my Residence, which we celebrated with British food and drink; and among many guests I have recently welcomed to the Residence I especially enjoyed hosting some young Estonian students of English. As always, the British Embassy works hard to increase the trade opportunities between UK and Estonia and strengthen economic ties with events such as the recent Whisky Tasting Competition.
Looking ahead, the current EU Presidency of Sweden will bring greater exposure to the Baltic region of the European Union. This and the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit will give further opportunities for the Nordic Baltic Network of British Embassies to collaborate in pursuit of the UK's foreign policy objectives. Among visitors to Tallinn we shall welcome the Head of the Royal Navy, Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope. We shall continue to promote trade, for example forthcoming events for Tetley Tea, Glaxo Smith Kline and Flowcrete Flooring. And we shall be monitoring the recent changes to the way in which British citizens living in Estonia apply for a British passport.
We are here to help. So please make the most of our website and its links as you explore.
