Responsible tourism
The past few years have seen a dramatic rise in the numbers of British tourists visiting Estonia, 62% since 2004 in fact. The majority of these spend most, if not all their stay in the capital city Tallinn.
But, with Tallinn City Tourist Board reporting that the typical British tourist is now a 25-34 year old male (73%) on a city break, increasingly likely to pay a visit to a nightclub (14-32% over the last 3 years) and with a declining interest in sightseeing (71-47% over the same period), current trends do not seem to fit with Tallinn's desire to promote itself as a cultural and historic tourist destination. As it has been pointed out, Venice or Vienna don't attract these sorts of groups. So what was going wrong in Estonia?
